There’s no doubt that we are spoilt for choice when it comes to health and fitness in Australia with new fun workouts coming out all the time. Therefore, there is no reason for you to be doing something that you don’t enjoy (unless there is a specific reason of course).

What better time to mix up your routine than at the start of the year. Here are some ways to have fun with your workouts this year!

Try Something New

If you are bored of doing the same old routine at the same place day in and day out, now would be a great time to try something new. Have a look on instagram, ask what your friends enjoy, try out a few things before you commit to a membership, or better still, find a studio that offers a variety of workouts to keep things interesting.

Do It With a Friend

Working out shouldn’t be a punishment, it is a celebration of what your body can do so why not double it as a social experience and bring a friend along for the ride. If you do this, try to find a friend that sticks to things as having a friend that actually shows up will help you to be more accountable.

Have a Challenge

If you are trying to get back into the habit of working out, a good way to do this is to sign up to a challenge, such as Flow 5, or to an event such as a fun run, Tough Mudder etc. Challenges are helpful for keeping you accountable, as there is usually a community of people participating to encourage you. Events are good too as you have to train to prepare for them.

Do something Unique

Sign up to a fitness activity that you can’t do everyday as it is a good way to get excited, meet new people and enjoy a new kind of atmosphere. A few options include:

PRIDE Flow After Dark:

The next Flow After Dark (silent yoga disco) will be PRIDE themed as well and it will be taking place on February 28th.

The event has an electric atmosphere and is both entertaining for participants and onlookers alike as there is literally a sea of yogis moving in sync with the same intention while making no sound. For participants, it allows them to zone out and enjoy their own practice as they can't hear anyone around them, yet they are part of a community who all have the same intention.

FITtopia Summer of Fit:

FITtopia are putting on a month of fitness events in February and they are all free. The first event will be a Retrosweat Great Australian workout and more will be announced shortly so keep an eye on the site.

Lululemon:

Lululemon host free workout events with local trainers all year round. Check out your local store for details. It’s a good way to train with different experts.

About Ben Lucas

Ben is the owner and co- founder of Flow Athletic, an incredibly successful yoga and fitness studio based in Paddington. It is now known worldwide and they have a lot of internationals coming in to try out their classes. He was also named one of the 2017 ‘Men of Influence’ by Men’s Style magazine.

Ben also came up with the innovative Flow After Dark silent yoga disco concept in 2016, which has now held 9 sold out events across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. He has also created the Nightclub Spin, Sofa 2 Surf and 30 Days Clean concepts which are always huge hits and generate a lot of interest within the media.

In 2015 Flow Athletic won the Telstra Small Business of the Year Award and last year he was also profiled in the Optus business feature.

Prior to getting into the fitness industry, Ben was a professional NRL player for the Cronulla Sharks and a number of other teams. After finishing his stint with the NRL, he went on to own three very successful personal training studios and during that time he also turned to Ultra Endurance running.

In the space of 5 years, he ran 35 marathons and 5 ultra marathons all over the world. Due to his interest in running, he then went on to train up 101 non- runners to run and complete their first marathon! A challenge he said he probably won’t take on again, however as a result Sofa2Surf was born.
