Love a latte but not so much the caffeine jitters or bellyache that follows? There are loads of caffeine-free or lower-caffeine latte blends in the health food scene that will nip that craving for a comforting drink in the bud, without the side-effects of coffee.

Caffeine-free lattes have come a long way since Starbucks’ syrupy chais, and the best part is that you can make them yourself at home.

All you need is one of our favourite latte blends below, plus your favourite plant-based milk to brew it with, and you’re good to go.

Tonika Vanilla Macadamia Coffee Creamer

Of course a coffee creamer needs to make it amongst the best healthy latte blends to warm up with… coffee creamer can take coffees (or any type of lattes) to a new level. One of the reasons to choose the Tonika Vanilla Macadamia Coffee Creamer is because of the metabolic benefits of MCT oil, this also makes it creamy and there’s no need to use any of the inflammatory vegetable oils or fats other creamers contain. Coconut milk powder also adds to the creaminess, while keeping it plant-based. There’s also medicinal mushrooms like tremella and lion’s mane bringing their adaptogenic and brain boosting properties. Plus the energy and mood boosting benefits of maca powder. Natural sweeters are used, which don’t cause a blood sugar spike and this creamer is free of additives like emulsifiers, anti-caking agents, artificial flavours, etc. that are commonly found in the supermarket alternatives.

Botanika Blends Magik Mylk

A healthy latte blend that’s like a hug in a mug, the Botanika Blends Magik Mylk is a healthy hot chocolate full of the good stuff. It contains amino acids that are involved in melatonin production, herbs that support sleep and an adaptogen to soothe our nervous system, making it a great drink to warm you up before bed. Using natural sweeteners like monk fruit powder and stevia, it’s free from the high amounts of added sugar that are in some supermarket hot chocolates. One popular brand actually contains 76.9% sugar, which is the perfect example of what we should avoid. Another thing to steer clear from in hot chocolates are fillers and artificial flavours. Luckily the Magik Mylk contains none of these and the main ingredient is cacao powder, exactly what hot chocolate should be made up of.

Chai Lords Instant Chai Latte

Chai latte powders from the supermarket are typically made with glucose syrup solids, vegetable fat, maltodextrin, artificial flavours, and numbered stabilisers - all the highly processed ingredients we say no to at GoodnessMe. You won’t find any of that in Chai Lords’ Instant Chai Latte; made with nothing but spices, Certified Organic and unrefined panela sugar, and a pinch of Himalayan salt to balance out the sweetness, it’s a chai we can get behind.

Nutra Organics Lover’s Latte

Move over, Milo. The chocolate drink of our childhood has a whopping 43.6g sugar per 100g. No thanks. Nutra Organics’ Lover’s Latte has just 9.5g sugar per 100g, and only 0.6g of sugar per serve - with its sweetness coming from carob and sugar-free monk fruit rather than refined sugar. And unlike Milo, it’s dairy and lactose-free, so if you’re lactose-intolerant, you can have your hot chocolate without the gut ache.

Jomeis Fine Foods Matcha Latte

Before you say you’re not a fan of matcha, try Jomeis’ matcha blend. Complete with coconut milk powder for creaminess, and stevia for a touch of sweetness (with no weird aftertaste), we like to brew this one with steamed almond or oat milk. Matcha is great because it’s high in L-theanine, an amino acid that can help you feel calm and switched on at the same time.

Knowrish Well Super Latte Golden State

Sip your way to a golden state of mind with this turmeric latte like no other. Vitamin A-rich pumpkin powder mingles with Certified Organic turmeric to give you double the antioxidants, while roasted carob, cinnamon, and monk fruit provide sweetness without the refined sugar. Complete with prebiotics to fuel your good gut flora, and ginger for some zing and to aid digestion, this is one seriously good for you latte.

Ritual Brews Unwind Brew

This unique cacao brew is boosted with calming herbs (ashwagandha, chamomile, passionflower) to help you sleep like a baby. Sweetened naturally with cinnamon, cardamom, and sugar-free monk fruit, it gets bonus points for actually tasting like a hot chocolate, without all the sugar.
