Treat Your Skin Naturally This Winter

As the temperature drops, our wardrobe isn’t the only aspect of our lives which needs tweaking. Just as we switch over from our swimmers to our scarves, our skin calls for an extra layer of care and protection too.

Here we sum up 8 of our top tips to combat the inevitable dryness which occurs when entering winter. From Lip balms to Cream Cleansers, these tips are sure to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy naturally all season long.

1. Cream Up Your Cleanser
Invest in a winter cream cleanser. Unlike the summer months where we are all a little more dewy, the cooler temperatures call for added hydration when cleansing. By using a creamy cleanser as opposed to a gel, you will give your skin a gentle clean without drying or removing the skin’s natural oils. An Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser (like the ones from Burts Bees) removes dirt, oil and make-up whilst the hero Clary Sage Extract works to help increase the skins ability to retain moisture.

2. Shed Old Skin
When your skin feels dry, it tends to look that way too. By gently exfoliating your skin on a weekly basis you can help remove dead skin cells, leaving your complexion clear and fresh. Follow up with a good moisturiser to ensure that you’re not over-drying your skin.

3. Eat Your Way To Beautiful Skin
A diet infused with omega-3 naturally makes skin softer and smoother from the inside out. Try sprinkling raw almonds on your bircher or porridge or add sunflower seeds to your salad to supply your body with essential fatty acids and important minerals.

4. Lock in Water
As soon as you jump out of your shower or bath, towel dry and apply your body lotion stat! This will help the moisture stay locked in and on your skin.

5. Heal Your Heels
Before you hop into bed each night, spend some time pampering your feet. A good trick is to apply an intensive foot cream and follow with a pair of cotton socks. This will block evaporation and help the cream to penetrate more effectively. Wake up to incredibly soft feet, naturally!

6. Nourish At Night
By applying a rich night cream before you go to sleep, you can say goodnight to dry skin and good morning to a hydrated, nourished complexion. A good night’s sleep is vitally important in the colder weather as it’s your body’s time to repair and rest. Make sure you leave at least one evening free a week for an early bath and bed.

7. Hydrate From Within
During the winter months, there’s a tendency to not drink as much water due to cooler temperatures. Although it is vital to keep your body hydrated all year round, this is especially relevant during the winter months as it ensures skin stays ‘alive’, hydrated and fresh. For a skin friendly warm up, try drinking herbal teas infused with high anti-oxidants throughout the day.

8. Give Your Lips A Kiss Of Colour And Care
Make sure you have a nourishing tinted lip balm close by at all times throughout winter - this will not only keep dry lips at bay, but it will keep your pucker looking pretty too! The Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm is 100% natural and includes Shea Butter to lock in moisture with a hint of colour.
