Here at GMB, we have the pleasure of trying (and indulging) in some of the best health food products on offer. This week we tried Barney Butter almond butter and let us tell you, it didn't disappoint!

So if you're thinking about switching up your nut butter our GMB Nutritionist, Melissa Fine speaks to Barney Butter and gives us the low down on why almond butter is a great choice.

What makes almond butter unique from other nut butters?

Almond butter is especially high in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that helps to fight damage caused by free radicals. Undesirable compounds in environmental toxins (think pollution and pesticides), free radicals are also produced in the body as a by-product of metabolism. By neutralising cell-damaging free radicals, vitamin E can help to resist the signs of aging and the development of disease.

Also a good plant source of calcium, a daily dose of almond butter is a great way to support bone health, particularly for those who don’t eat dairy.

What makes the palm oil that’s in Barney Butter Almond Butter different from other palm oils?

To clarify, Barney Butter contains palm fruit oil, and not the undesirable palm kernel oil. Unlike some vegetable oils found in commercial nut butters, palm fruit oil is non-hydrogenated, meaning it has no artery-clogging hardened trans fats.

While palm oil can be a controversial ingredient, you can be assured that the palm fruit oil in Barney Butter is sustainably sourced from a palm oil field grown entirely for the purpose of harvesting. Barney’s palm fruit oil is also in the process of becoming certified 100% sustainable.

No precious orangutan habitats are touched in Barney Butter’s sourcing of palm fruit oil. Certified by RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm oil), what you get in Barney Butter is good for you and our ecosystem!
