Cacao Mocha Frappe
Apart from containing two of our favourite things at GMB – coffee and chocolate, this frappe is rich in both antioxidants and good-for-your-gut pre and probiotics (your prebiotics create a ‘feeding ground’ for probiotics, and so encourage good gut bacteria to thrive).
Unlike the cream topped, milk and refined sugar laden frappe you get from a certain coffee joint, this recipe is made with plant-based wholefoods and sweetened with fructose free rice malt…a much healthier way to indulge when you need a little pick-me-up.
Ingredients:
For the Frappe:
- 1 cup ice, plus extra to serve
- ¼ cup almond milk
- 1 tbs Blackmores Single Origin Cacao + Nature Boost Prebiotics and Probiotics
- 1 tbs rice malt syrup
- 1 shot of coffee (or 1/4 cup if using instant coffee)
For the Cacao Glaze:
- 1 tbs coconut oil
- 2 tsp Blackmores Single Origin cacao powder
- 1 tbs rice malt syrup
Method:
- If using instant coffee, brew espresso as per the instructions on the container.
- In a blender, place the ice, cacao powder and rice malt syrup, process until well combined.
- Melt the coconut oil in the microwave (approx. 15 seconds) and add the cacao and rice malt syrup for the cacao glaze. Drizzle it generously around the edges of your mason jar.
- Fill the glass with extra ice, and pour the frappe over the top. Top with espresso shot, and extra cacao glaze if desired.
Matcha Latte Makeover
Many people have hopped on the matcha latte bandwagon, thinking they’re doing something good for their health; unfortunately while they may sound and look healthy, most commercial matcha lattes are loaded with white sugar, milk powder and artificial colours and flavours.
If you want to drink matcha for its health properties – like its impressive antioxidant profile and ‘L-theanine’ content, which promotes relaxation and improved concentration – it’s worth making your own matcha lattes.
This matcha latte recipe uses high quality matcha powder that hasn’t been messed with…and it should put some pep in your step thanks to its caffeine content (but in a gentler dose than coffee) and a natural boost of energising B vitamins…we’ll drink to that!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 tsp Blackmores Matcha Green Tea + Nature Boost Vitamin B
- 1/4 cup hot water - the water should be hot, but make sure it’s not boiling
- 1 cup almond/coconut milk, heated to a hot, but not boiling temperature
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 1-2 tsp rice malt syrup (to taste)
Method:
- Place the Matcha Green Tea + Nature Boost Vitamin B powder in a small wide bowl, then slowly pour in the hot water and stir with a teaspoon (make a ‘W’ or ‘M’ shape in the bowl)
- Add the rice malt syrup and continue to stir until the matcha is fully dissolved
- Pour the heated milk into a mug, then add the matcha mixture. Stir very well.
- Sprinkle in the cinnamon + nutmeg, serve immediately.
Cheeky tip: Simply add ice cubes to the mixture for a cool, refreshing bevvy!
