From its traditional therapeutic applications to culinary uses, there’s so much you can do with old-school apple cider vinegar!

Being big fans of the stuff ourselves, we thought we’d answer all your questions on this underestimated wholefood condiment.

What are the benefits of apple cider vinegar?

A natural digestive aid, apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a used as a traditional remedy for alleviating digestive issues like gas, bloating and constipation. It is thought that a teaspoon of ACV before a main meal – diluted in a glass of filtered water - helps to stimulate digestive juices and break down ingested food.

How do I consume apple cider vinegar?

As a digestive tonic: While more high quality research is needed surrounding this, a morning glass of water mixed with apple cider vinegar can make a nice little ritual, setting a healthy tone for the day (more so than a large, sugary coffee!). If you feel like you’re drinking salad dressing, dilute the mixture with extra water, or try a dash of honey to cut the acidity.

In homemade salad dressing:

Combine two parts extra virgin olive oil to one part ACV, before mixing in a dash each of Dijon mustard and rice malt syrup, and seasoning with salt and pepper…with the perfect flavour balance, this dressing goes with pretty much any salad combo!

Bake with it:

Ever wondered why ACV is often included in a muffin or quick bread recipe? The reason is that because it’s an acid, it serves to activate the alkaline baking soda, forming an acid-base chemical reaction…a little science there for you!

What exactly is the ‘mother’?

If you have no idea what it means when a brand of ACV claims to be rich in the ‘mother’, here’s your answer: Comprised of protein enzyme molecules, the ‘mother’ is the naturally-occurring, cloudy component of ACV.

Rich in acetic acid, the ‘mother’ is what provides ACV with its potential digestive benefits…so you’ll want to go for a cloudy, rather than clear-looking ACV.

“I’d like to include more apple cider vinegar in my diet, but I can’t stand the taste.”

This is where Bioglan’s Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules come in…yes, really! Rich in the ‘mother’, one capsule provides the equivalent of one teaspoon ACV. Even if you are a fan of the flavour of ACV mixed in water, Bioglan’s ACV Capsules are handy for keeping in your handbag for on-the-go days or when you’re travelling.

Is apple cider vinegar bad for your teeth?

Regular consumption of acid-rich foods can erode tooth enamel. Because ACV is acidic, you may like to drink your ACV tonic through a straw. Or why not try Bioglan’s Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules instead? Because the ACV is encapsulated, you can have your daily ACV without causing damage to your teeth…win!
