For parents of picky eaters: How to pack a healthy lunchbox
Do you struggle to get your kid to eat enough? Or do you find lunchbox prep the most stressful part of the school week?
If your mini me doesn’t enjoy a lot of foods, or refuses to try new ones, you’re far from alone. Many kids go through the picky eater stage, which can be frustrating for the whole family.
The good news? This won’t last forever, and there are a few ways you can encourage your little one to expand their palate and get the nutrients they need to thrive.
Top tip: Make food more interactive
One of the best ways to get kids excited about eating healthy foods is to involve them in the process. For example, set out an array of toppings for homemade pizza and let them create their own — think carrots, mushrooms, spinach or tomatoes. You could even let them roll out their bases to add to the fun!
When your GoodnessMe box arrives, let your little one open the box and go through all the delicious snacks. You can also use this opportunity to explain different tastes to them, like sweet and savoury. We’ve also just released our brand new Kids Snack Boxes, which are perfect for picky eaters as well as kids with food allergies or intolerances. When it’s time to pack their lunchbox, ask your kiddo to choose a snack from their very own box!
Top tip: Put your teacher hat on
Kids love learning new things, so make an effort to tell your kids just how powerful certain foods can be.
- Carrots make our eyes see in the dark!
- Apples help us to remember everything!
- Spinach gives us stronger bones so we can grow taller!
Along with helping with picky eating, teaching your kids about these kinds of benefits can help them establish a healthy relationship with food early on.
What to avoid when buying additive-free snacks
As parents, we want to do everything we can to help our children thrive! Enter: Nutrition. It’s a huge part of a kid’s growth, development and energy, especially as they’re juggling school, sports, extracurriculars and playdates.
Try to limit their intake of highly processed foods, refined sugar and flour, trans fats and artificial flavours and preservatives. These foods might give us a quick boost, but they ultimately slow down our energy production and leave us feeling tired and depleted.
Instead, focus on loading up your kid’s plate with beautiful, nourishing wholefoods. Think veggies, fruits, wholegrains, nuts, seeds and high quality protein like eggs, poultry or lean meat.

Top tip: Get creative!
The goal is to make healthy foods as appetising as possible. This could be as simple as whipping up a smoothie in your kid’s favourite colour — if that’s blue, toss some blueberries into the mix, and if it’s green, that’s a great excuse to throw in some leafy greens. To really dial up the health factor, add a scoop of Nutra Organics Veggie Hero to sneak in 15 superfoods and boost energy and immunity!
Another idea? If you’re putting together a snack place, try using cookie cutters to create fun shapes out of fruits and veggies.
