Kate is the Co-Founder and Yoga Director at Flow Athletic, Blackmores Yoga and Wellbeing Coach and host of the famous Flow After Dark event series that has taken Australia by storm. We love Kate's passion about teaching the art of slowing down and were interested to know what she eats in a day, so we asked Kate to share her day on a plate.

Kate's Day on a Plate...

I’m a bit of a routine kind of girl; I like my rituals and routines when it comes to eating.

Breakfast

A typical day for me starts with a big glass of water before I sit down to meditate for 20 minutes, and then breakfast is usually a really hearty smoothie. We’re really lucky to have Orchard St just across the road from my work and they do great smoothies. If I make it myself at home I’ll add in things like spinach, banana, Blackmores superfoods chia seeds or coconut water, so it’s quite filling.

Morning tea

A handful of nuts.

Lunch

Lunch is usually a takeaway vegan salad from Orchard St. They do this awesome Buddha bowl salad with half an avocado and loads of cabbage, spinach and seaweed. Quite often I’ll add some extra protein like grilled fish.

Afternoon tea

A piece of fruit or a protein bar, but it has to be a pretty clean one.

Dinner

My dinner is really simple – one of my go-to dishes involves steaming my favourite vegetables like squash, asparagus, bok choy and red onion, putting them in a bowl (because everything tastes better in a bowl!), then mixing in half an avocado, some hummus, fresh fish and cayenne pepper or chilli flakes. Stir that all up and it creates a beautiful, creamy bowl of deliciousness. I am getting more and more experimental with my cooking.

Exercise

In addition to the classes I teach at Flow Athletic, I do a personal yoga practice every day. I have to; it’s my medicine and burns up the crazy! It can be anything from 20 to 90 minutes depending on how much time I have and what I’ve got the energy for. I feel like the older I get, the gentler my practice is, and the gentler I need it to be.

I also run two to three times a week, for around 20 to 30 minutes at a time. I like to mix up my run, for instance there’s a set of stairs at Rushcutters Bay, and so I might do a run then finish with three sets of stairs.

I also do a 45 minute strength class each week at Flow Athletic. Each week’s class is different, so one week it might be TRX and kettlebells, the next week it might be kettlebells and vipers.
