Back
Winter is around the corner and with the weather cooling down it’s time to start incorporating more warming options throughout the day. We begin to transition away from lots of raw ingredients and move towards more cooked meals. Some of our favourite winter warmers include soups, broths, stews, casseroles, one-pan dishes, curries and more. There’s a huge range of different options making these meals easier and tastier, available here on the GoodnessMe Shop.
Comfort foods can often be associated with ‘less healthy’ options, but the reality is that there are many delicious and nutritious options that are incredibly comforting. Whether it’s getting an internal hug from a nourishing cup of soup, or enjoying a warming curry packed full of spices that will have you working up a sweat. This winter we invite you to embrace all things hearty and warm with us.
Here are some of the best comfort foods to keep you warm this winter:
Plantasy Foods Creamy Tomato Soup

Having a winter warmer like the Plantasy Foods Creamy Tomato Soup on hand is always a good idea. You never know when the weather can take a turn and you’ll be in the mood for soup. This soup makes a warming snack, or can be used as the base of a meal (just add a protein source of your choice and some extra veg). Using all real food ingredients, this Tomato Soup uses dried tomato, rather than any concentrates of flavours. The coconut milk powder gives it a nice creamy texture and adds to the delicious taste. It uses a bit of cassava flour to thicken it, which means it’s still gluten free and has some added fibre. It’s a winner all round.
Plantasy Foods Cheez Spinkles
There’s a lot to love about the Plantasy Foods Cheez Sprinkles and the way it increases the comfort levels of our warm meals is just one of them. Being dairy free, it’s suitable for more dietary requirements and preferences (whether you’re lactose intolerant, plant based or vegan). The first ingredient is fava beans, which are a type of legume that contains a number of micronutrients like folate, manganese, copper, phosphorous, magnesium and iron. Fava beans are also a source of protein and fibre, adding small amounts of these macronutrients to our meal too. Another ingredient that this Cheez contains is nutritional yeast, which has B vitamins and can support energy production and detoxification. It uses real foods and vegetable powders to flavour it and there’s no additives like anti-caking agents or preservatives.
Qetoe Low Carb Fettucine

Made of soy beans, the Low Carb Pasta from Qetoe is the ultimate comfort food. There’s nothing like a warm bowl of pasta to keep you warm and bring you comfort, even more so when you know it’s a nutritious option. Soy beans are a great source of protein, meaning that this fettuccine can actually help keep you fuller for longer and contribute towards your daily protein requirements. Because soy beans are high in protein, it also makes them lower in carbohydrates, helping us get a properly balanced meal (which should be about one quarter carbs, one quarter protein, half vegetables and a serve of healthy fats). There’s no additives or nasties and this fettuccine certainly meets our real food philosophy!
Pimp My Salad Cashew Parm Cheez

Is it just us or is cheese a great comfort food? We’re sure we’re not alone. However, traditional cheese may not be a suitable comfort food for all, in fact it can make those with a lactose intolerance very uncomfortable. Pimp My Salad have created a Cashew Parm Cheez that is plant based and dairy free, making it suitable for a number of dietary requirements and preferences. It contains cashews, which are a good source of fibre and minerals like copper, manganese and magnesium. Nutritional yeast also makes an appearance and this ingredient contains B vitamins which have many jobs within our body, including being involved in energy production and detoxification. Along with the benefits, there’s also the delicious taste of this product. You can sprinkle this Cashew Parm Cheez on just about anything to increase the comfort food level.
Tilda Chilli and Lemongrass Rice

Tilda Coconut, Chilli & Lemongrass rice is made up of mostly real foods and doesn’t contain the additives that are so commonly present in other pre-cooked rices. For example, some microwave rice packets have numerous thickeners, which are highly refined and in some cases ‘modified’. We like our food real, so modified, synthetic or highly processed food doesn't meet that criteria. While the Tilda rice does have a small amount of added sugar, looking closer into it shows that it’s the equivalent of 0.8%, which isn’t anything to worry about and is less than many of the other microwave rices. It’s definitely the better option of microwave rices and one we enjoy for added convenience.
Amy’s Kitchen Soups
Never has it been so easy to cook up a nutritious soup! The great thing about the products from Amy’s Kitchen is that they use real food ingredients that mimic what we’d put into a homemade soup. They’re available in a convenient can and are something that we can easily stock up on and have in the back of the pantry for when we need a quick but nourishing meal. They can be enjoyed as they are, bulked up or served alongside something else. A crusty piece of sourdough bread goes down a treat with a warm bowl of these soups.

Explore Pasta Black Bean Spaghetti

When we think of comfort food, pasta is often at the top of the list. The great news is that while comforting, it can also be a nutritious option. What we serve it with makes a big impact towards this, but the pasta itself can really make a difference too. Most conventional pasta is made with highly refined wheat and as a result is nutritionally void. Wholemeal options are one step better, but pulse pastas take it up to a whole other level. Being made from beans means they come with additional fibre, which is beneficial for gut health and can support blood sugar regulation. Along with this, they contain some protein and can help make the dish more filling while providing the building blocks for many functions within the body. The Explore Pasta Black Bean Spaghetti brings us the benefits of black beans, with the enjoyment that comes with pasta.
Flavours Of The World Spice Mixes

Spice mixes are all about flavour, which unfortunately means that they often have a bunch of nasties in the mix. Whether it’s artificial flavours, flavour enhancers or even sugar, there are many things to steer clear from when choosing a spice mix. The main thing we want to see in a healthy spice mix is actual spices. Each spice brings its own nutritional benefits, but generally they’re a good source of antioxidants and polyphenols. The Flavours of the World Spice Mixes are the perfect example of what to choose when adding the taste and benefits of spics to your meals. They use good quality herbs and spices and don’t contain any of the nasties to steer clear from. Incorporate these mixes into your winter meals for that extra layer of warmth and comfort.
