Smoothie season is here! I love how you can pack so much flavour and so many nutrients into one shake. Cool off with this summer with one of these five fun smoothies.
1) Coconut Frosty
Summer in a smoothie. A recipe from the team at Natural Raw C Coconut Water – one of the lowest sugar coconut waters on the market.
Ingredients (for 1 large or 2 smaller serves)
- 330ml Natural Raw C*
- 1/2 cup ice
- 1tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/3 cup frozen peaches
Method: Add all ingredients to a strong blender and blend on high until smooth and evenly combined. Super pink and peachy and pretty.

2) Iced Coffee Protein Shake
A wake-me-up breakkie shake that will keep you going all morning thanks to a good balance of blood-sugar stabilising protein and fibre. Also a much healthier alternative to café-style, sugar-laden iced coffee frappes; Lots of ice bumps up the volume of this without adding unnecessary extra kilojoules.
Ingredients (for 1 serve)
- 1 tsp instant coffee (or 1 shot of the good stuff)
- ½ cup milk of choice (I like a blend of coconut and rice milk)
- 1 scoop vanilla/chocolate/espresso pea protein powder (or sub with whey powder)
- ½ frozen banana (peel and cut into chunks before freezing)
- 8 ice cubes
Method:
Throw everything in the blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
3) Minty Mango & Banana Smoothie Bowl

- handful fresh blueberries
- 1 tbsp chia seeds

4) Coconut-Cucumber Slushy
An all-natural, refined sugar free and low kilojoule slushy – The perfect mid-arvo pick me up.
Ingredients
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 Lebanese cucumber, cut into chunks
- 1 cup ice
Method: Combine everything in a strong blender; Blend until evenly combined and the ice has a granita-like consistency.
5) Green Smoothie Breakkie Bowl
When I have the time, I much prefer serving my smoothie in a bowl and eating it with a spoon; I find I tend to ‘chew’ and enjoy my smoothie more this way instead of just gulping it down.
Ingredients
- ½ cup baby spinach leaves
- ½ frozen banana (peel and chop before freezing)
- ½ cup coconut, rice or almond milk
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 8 ice cubes
- 2 spoonfuls of your favourite muesli
- handful fresh/frozen raspberries
- 1 TBS almond butter or coconut butter (from health food stores)
Method: Add the spinach, banana, milk, chia seeds and ice to a strong blender; Blend on high until everything is nicely combined and smooth. Pour into a pretty bowl and top with muesli for crunch and raspberries for some colour contrast; Finish off with a drizzle of creamy almond/coconut butter for some extra healthy fats, fibre and protein, and to bring it all together.
