Morning:

Mornings are some of the only time of the day that I can have complete silence and stillness and I try and take advantage of this with at least 20 minutes of meditation in the sun! I back this up with exercise because it’s really important to move my body everyday but if I don’t exercise first thing then it just doesn’t happen! I try and alternate between weight training, yoga on the beach and of course playing with Tiaki, my 7 year old German Shepherd mix.

Breakfast:

I often have meetings first thing in the morning so if I can combine them with food then it’s pretty great! This is a pic of my breakie this morning at one of my fave cafés in Perth. It’s poached eggs, broccolini, kale, spicy harissa, a touch of goats cheese and a dukkah sprinkle! My breakfasts may not always look this good but I usually alternate between poached eggs, greens and avocado or a green smoothie like my Green Goddess Smoothie recipe. I try to keep my food as simple as possible with each meal containing clean protein, good quality fats and good choice carbohydrates.

Mid morning:

I love love love coffee but I have rules around it for my patients and myself! Coffee time has to be after 10am so that it doesn’t mess with your adrenal (stress) hormones and organic, if possible. I’m a bit of a coffee purist and like it strong, black with nothing added.

Lunch:

My friends joke that I could live on chicken salads, and it’s absolutely true! I literally throw everything into my salads so it’s as colourful and nutritious as possible and they’ve become ‘world famous’ (according to me anyway).
I try to eat 9-12 serves of vegetables every day because they’re packed full of nutrients, minerals and fibre that our gut bugs LOVE and my salads help me to get a huge dose of veggies. Todays salad had one organic chicken thigh with rocket, kale, red cabbage, beetroot, spring onion, pumpkin, coriander, pepitas and a lemon and cold pressed olive oil dressing.

Dinner:

I typically don’t finish seeing patients until around 7pm so dinners need to be as quick, simple and nutritious as possible! Tonight’s dinner is: Locally caught snapper with stir-fried Asian greens, chilli, herbs and a tamari dressing.

Dr Andrea’s Green Goddess Smoothie:

Ingredients:

  • Handful of spinach
  • Handful of kale (run under boiling water first, it’s better for your thyroid)
  • 1 Lebanese cucumber, skin off
  • Half green apple
  • ¼ avocado
  • 1 celery stick
  • A few almonds
  • 1 tspn chia seeds
  • Mint leaves
  • ½ lemon, skin off
  • ½ lime, skin off
  • 1 cup of water or coconut water
  • Handful of ice

Blend all ingredients together and enjoy as a nutritious breakie or snack. This recipe is very filling and is definitely better cold!
